Tropical Birding's Massachusetts Tour won't start until late tomorrow afternoon, but I flew in a day early to chase some birds in the area. My good luck with weather has continued. After getting slammed repeatedly by blizzards this winter, Massachusetts feels like spring today. The high was near 40, the roads are clear, and there is very little snow on the ground.
After flying to Boston, I rented a car and headed south to Rhode Island. My first stop was at Boyd's Lane Marsh. I got a good look at my target bird, a Eurasian Wigeon.
My next targets are all being seen in Connecticut. I didn't see them today, but tomorrow I will have another shot at Black-headed Gull, Common Gull, Tufted Duck, and Pink-footed Goose. These birds are all uncommon to rare in the USA, but I had no trouble seeing them all during a five-day trip to Wales a few years ago.
Some other nice birds today included:
American Wigeon
Red=breasted Merganser - male
Red-breasted Merganser -female. Is she yawning? Even the birds find me boring.
According to the old saying, "A man's home is his castle." Someone in Rhode Island took that way too seriously.
Total species seen this year: 231.
